An Elmwood Park police officer has been charged with official misconduct and financial exploitation of a senior citizen

John A. Wasilenko, 39, of Norridge, was taken into custody Friday morning. He is charged with official misconduct and financial exploitation of a senior citizen.

Police say they were contacted by an elderly man who said he did not write a $20,000 check that was made out to Wasilenko. Investigators say Wasilenko deposited a check in that amount in December 2012.

Police say the victim is an 84-year-old man with advanced dementia, whom Wasilenko allegedly befriended after speaking to the victim about thefts at his Elmwood Park home.

isn't this guy a piece of work using his trusted position to take advantage of an old person who caught the activity on the bank accounts so what happens to the old 84 year old man he is guardianized by the cook county public guardian that's what so now the old gentleman will be taken away from is house no doubt and put into a facility his life as he knew it is over if this happened to a younger person well the cop would be charged but the victims life wouldn't be in the same direction as this old fellow who will leave this earth as a ward of the state sad and disturbing
