Accountability is Now Demanded

Abuse hurts at any age.

Agreed.

And we must add:

Abuse hurts no matter who commits it.

So when Gail Nardi, the head of Adult Protective Services for the entire Commonwealth of Virginia, breezily observes that "only 20%" of adult abuse and neglect occurs in facilities, it gives us pause.

When Amy Marschean, the overpaid "policy analyst" for the Virginia Department for Aging and Rehabilitative Services, cheerily responds to the account of an elderly Jewish Family Service of Tidewater client who DIED under suspicious circumstances, with no investigation by state authorities into clearly improper conduct, by saying "this is a LOCAL problem," it gives us pause.

When Janet James, the Public Guardianship Coordinator for the entire state, absurdly claims that "this is a PRIVATE guardianship case," knowing full well that the guardianship petition was brought, and the guardianship funded, by Adult Protective Services, it gives us great pause.

What is going to have to happen for these clueless, tin-ear, heartless bureaucrats to get off their duffs and do their JOBS?

Abuse hurts no matter who commits it, even Adult Protective Services and public guardianship programs. ESPECIALLY Adult Protective Services and public guardianship programs.

There's no excuse, ladies. None whatsoever. Get to work, or get out of the way, because this problem is going to be SOLVED, with or without you.
