Action News 5 - Memphis, Tennessee
MEMPHIS, TN - (WMC) - A woman is accused of beating her own mother over a three-day period, even putting a gun to her head.

Louise Pino is behind bars on a $25,000 bond; charged with adult abuse, neglect and exploitation.

A police affidavit says the abuse began Thursday inside a home near Covington Pike in northeast Memphis. The 87-year-old told police her daughter moved in last Tuesday to recover from knee surgery.

Mike Carpenter with the Plough Foundation has no ties to this case, but he says elder abuse is a much bigger problem than the public may realize.

"If you know of somebody or suspect somebody elderly is being abused, you have a requirement under the law to report that," said Carpenter.

In this case, police say the elderly woman was able to slip a note to her visiting son describing the abuse and begging for him to help her.

The son called police and investigators found the gun in Pino's bedroom.
